The November issue of Best’s Review features an interview with Marianne Harrison, chief executive officer, at John Hancock, for the past year. In “Choosing Disruption,” Harrison explains how she hopes to revitalize the brand, and potentially reinvent the life insurance model, by dramatically increasing engagement with customers. To do this, the insurer has integrated its interactive vitality health and wellness incentive platform into all new coverage and will no longer sell traditional life policies.

“You can either be the disrupter or you are going to get disrupted,” said Harrison. “If we did not shake this up ourselves, it would have happened to us. We wanted to take this into our own hands and disrupt ourselves as it relates to the life insurance industry.”

The November issue also examines issues facing the homeowners’ insurance industry. “A Burning Issue” looks at new concerns about the rates and availability of homeowners’ insurance in fire-prone areas of the country following a series of major wildfires. Another recent development affecting this market is the longer length of time to settle catastrophe claims. In “The Long Tail of the Cat,” A.M.BestTV spoke with industry experts about how litigation, regulation and public officials are impacting the settling of claims from catastrophic events. Best’s Review’s coverage also includes our annual ranking of homeowners’ insurers.
