Torgerson addressed how wildfires have been on the increase in California.

“When we started in 2008 we would be working robustly for maybe four months and have a shoulder season that extended the season to six months,” said Torgerson. “However, as these years have gone on, and the threat from wildfires has quickly escalated, we presently have situations where we are working year-round.”

Torgerson also spoke about the contribution insurers are providing to educated homeowners and policyholders.

“The insurance industry is in the unique situation of being able to help the homeowner and the policyholder understand their risks and make better decisions. … There is a real opportunity here, and the insurance industry has definitely stepped up to educate those groups,” he said.
