The methodology A.M. Best uses to rate ILS and insurance-linked structures is, titled, “Best Insurance-Linked Securities and Structures Methodology.” The purpose of the methodology is to provide a framework for rating these transactions.
“There are about four generic ILS transactions that are in the market today,” said Emmanuel Modu, managing director and global head, insurance-linked securities, A.M. Best. “These structured transactions are called: ILS Fund, Asset-Backed Security, General Liability and Value-In-Force.”
Other members of the A.M. Best ILS team—Elmo Chin, director, Wai Tang, director, Asha Attoh-Okine, associate director and Yuhmei Chen, senior financial analyst—spotlighted the rating process and types of ratings assigned to ILS’ and insurance-linked structures.
