OLDWICK - FEBRUARY 12, 2018
In this A.M.BestTV episode, Dan Glaser, president and chief executive officer at Marsh & McLennan Companies., said advancing technology should aid brokers and insurers, but could have a range of unforeseen impacts. Click on http://www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=dglaser218 to view the entire program.
Glaser has a positive viewpoint for the industry this year.
“I am generally optimistic that the industry essentially has proven part of its purpose,” said Glaser. “In 2017 there were a number of large catastrophe claims, which the industry is working through now: paying claims, adjusting, helping clients recover…….There are certain areas that are under more stress than others on an overall aggregate loss basis, and if 2018 ends up looking like 2017, then the industry would end up tightening quite considerably,” continued Glaser.
Glaser also believes that artificial intelligence is going to have a positive influence on the industry.
“I think artificial intelligence is likely to be a positive as it relates to our industry. Clearly, the ability to use lots of data in order to create more predictive capabilities seems to be something that is going to be very interesting for clients. How to mitigate or how to avoid loss, based upon learnings for many, many companies in many, many countries seems like a real positive.”
