FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLDWICK - OCTOBER 14, 2019 08:42 AM (EDT)
AM Best Associate Director Fred Eslami will participate in the Hawaii Captive Insurance Council’s (HCIC) Annual Forum, taking place Oct. 21–24, 2019, in Koloa, HI.

Eslami will deliver a presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. (HST), titled, “The AM Best Rating Process — Case Study From a Hawaii Captive,” in which he will explore the analysis that goes into AM Best’s credit ratings, as detailed in Best’s Credit Rating Methodology, as well as discuss AM Best’s approach to rating captive insurance companies. Eslami also will provide an update on the rating agency’s plan for evaluating an insurer’s level of innovation and to what extent that evaluation ultimately will impact the measure of an insurer’s financial strength. AM Best’s draft criteria procedure on innovation, which recently was refined following an initial comment period, is available at www.ambest.com/ratings/methodology.asp . Eslami has been with AM Best since 2008, and is part of the alternative risk transfer group, rating domestic and offshore captive insurance companies. He also leads AM Best’s monitoring of the cyber insurance market.

The HCIC, established in 1991, supports Hawaii as a leading captive domicile. This year’s forum, which is at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, will feature sessions on a variety of topics relevant to captive professionals, including best practices, compliance, social media and innovation.
