A.M. Best Co. has upgraded the financial strength rating to A- (Excellent) from B++ (Very Good) of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBSAL) (Birmingham, AL).
The rating of BCBSAL reflects its favorable earnings trends, very good risk-based capital and increasing enrollment. Offsetting these strengths is BCBSAL's geographic concentration of business in a single state.
This rating is based on public information and incorporates a review of balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile.
