Best's Rankings: Hartford Becomes No. 2 US Commercial Multiperil Writer on 12.5% Growth
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Hartford Insurance Group's 12.5% increase in direct premiums written in 2025 moved it past Chubb INA Group to become the second-largest writer of U.S. commercial multiperil (total), according to a new Best's Rankings report.
U.S. property/casualty industry direct premiums written for the line bumped up 4.4% to $70.05 billion.
Travelers Group retained its top spot after DPW rose 5% to $6.26 billion. Commercial multiperil premiums at No. 3 Chubb increased 4.3% to $3.8 billion.
Premiums declined at five of the 20 largest writers of the line, most sharply at No. 18 Berkshire Hathaway Insurance. It was No. 13 in 2024, before DPW fell 33.3% to $1.04 billion.
The report includes 2025 direct premiums written and percentage change, three years of market share and adjusted loss ratios and the percentage share of company premiums for the line.
