2026 Best's Rankings: US Group Life In Force Grows as Top Carriers Mostly Stable
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - The United States life/health industry saw group life insurance business in force grow by 3.3% to $25.39 trillion in 2025, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Great-West Life Group topped the list for a second consecutive year, with its $5.26 trillion of group life in force in 2025 rising 4.3%, according to the data. MetLife Insurance Cos. stayed at No. 2, with $4.98 trillion up 0.3%. In third was Prudential of America Group, which had $2.28 trillion of group life in force at the close of the year, for an increase of 0.9%.
New York Life Group moved up one spot to No. 4 in the only upward movement in the top five and knocking Securian Financial Insurance Group down one place to fifth. NYL's $2.23 trillion of group life in force was up 10.3%, while Securian had $2.02 trillion, which was down 5.4% in the only drop among the top five.
The report lists the top 100 companies/groups, their ranking in 2025 and 2024, their policies in force in 2025 and the percentage change over the year.
