2026 Best’s Rankings: Progressive Remains Atop US Commercial Auto No-Fault List
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Despite little growth in direct premiums written, Progressive Insurance Group remained the top writer of commercial auto no-fault coverage, based on DPW, in the United States in 2025, according to a new Best’s Rankings report.
Progressive saw DPW contract 0.1% to $203.6 million and its market share ticked down to 16.3% from 16.6% the year prior, according to the ranking. Commercial auto no-fault policies account for roughly 0.2% of the company’s overall premiums.
American Transit Insurance Co. moved up one spot to No. 2 on this year’s ranking, as it saw DPW up 9.6% to $126.2 million. American Transit overtook Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos., which saw DPW drop 34.4% to $118.1 million.
MS&AD US Insurance Group had significant growth in DPW and market share as it moved to No. 4 from No. 60 on last year’s ranking. The company’s total DPW reached $54.1 million, while its market share grew to 4.3% in 2025 from 0.2% a year earlier, according to the ranking.
Rounding out the top five carriers was Berkshire Hathaway Insurance, which moved from No. 8 the year prior as its DPW grew 53.5% to $51.8 million.
In total, the sector saw DPW increase 1.4% to $1.25 billion this past year. The top 25 writers saw similar results, with DPW up 1.4% to $1.0 billion.
The report includes 2025 direct premiums written, year-on-year premium changes, and data on market shares and adjusted loss ratios.
