Sompo Names Leaders for Reorganized Expanded Insurance Business

Verisk appoints replacements for its retiring chairman and chief executive officer and United Fire Group launches a search for a successor to its departing CEO.

Julian James

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. appointed four executives to lead its reorganized insurance business that is marked for expansion.

The new company structure will improve the ease of doing business globally with the company and ensure a consistent market approach, Sompo said in a statement.

Effective April 4, Julian James leads the company's newly designated Europe, Middle East and Africa region, along with commercial property/casualty business in Asia and Latin America. Chris Sparro oversees the newly formed North America region covering property/casualty insurance in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda, Sompo said.

They report to Chris Gallagher, Sompo International Holdings executive director and Sompo International commercial property/casualty CEO.

Daniel Neo leads Asia-Pacific property/casualty commercial and consumer insurance and reports to Sompo International CEO James Shea. Michael Chang is the newly appointed global head of customer and distribution management.

Verisk Announces Successors to Retiring CEO-Chairman

Verisk, a global data and analytics provider, announced the retirement of Scott G. Stephenson, chairman, president and chief executive officer. Lee Shavel, currently chief financial officer and group president, will succeed Stephenson as CEO.

Stephenson also will step down from the Verisk board of directors following the 2022 annual meeting. The roles of CEO and chairman will be separated upon Stephenson's retirement.

Mark Anquillare, currently chief operating officer and group president, will succeed Stephenson as president, according to a company statement.

Stephenson joined Verisk in 2001 and was appointed COO in 2008, president in 2011 and CEO in 2013. Under his leadership, the company nearly doubled its annual revenue, more than tripled its market capitalization and nearly tripled the number of countries in which it operates.

Formerly Nasdaq Inc.'s executive vice president and CFO, Shavel joined Verisk in 2017 and has served as CFO since that time. In 2021, he also became group president of the company's energy and financial services segments.

Anquillare has been with Verisk for nearly 30 years. He served as CFO during the company's initial public offering in 2009 and through 2016. Since 2016, Anquillare has served as Verisk's COO and led the company's insurance vertical.

Randy Ramlo

United Fire Group's CEO Set to Step Down

United Fire Group Inc. announced the retirement of Randy Ramlo, chief executive officer. Ramlo is a longtime UFG employee and has served in his current role since May 2007.

Ramlo will continue in his current role until a successor is named and intends to remain in a consulting role to the company during the transition process following the appointment of a new CEO. Ramlo's anticipated retirement date from UFG is Oct. 31, according to a company statement.

Ramlo joined UFG in 1984 as an underwriter. Since then, he has held a variety of leadership roles, including vice president of fidelity and surety and chief operating officer.

Sara Gomez

Lloyd's Appoints Chief People Officer

Lloyd's has named Sara Gomez to the newly created role of chief people officer.

Gomez joined Lloyd's in July 2021 and five months later was appointed interim chief human resources officer and a member of Lloyd's executive committee. In her new role, Gomez will focus on developing Lloyd's talent, leadership and inclusion strategy.

Gomez has experience as a CPO and has held leadership roles in the retail, commercial and financial sectors, most recently at the fintech Greensill. Before that, she was people director at Moss Brothers, following seven years at Direct Line Group, according to a company statement.

Jeanne Edwards

AIG Names Chief Procurement Officer

American International Group Inc. has promoted Jeanne Edwards to chief procurement officer, AIG.

Edwards will be responsible for the overall strategy and performance of all purchasing and vendor services across AIG. She will report to Shane Fitzsimons, executive vice president, chief financial officer, AIG, the company said in a statement.

Edwards joined AIG in December 2021 from Precision Castparts, where she served as chief procurement officer. Prior to that, she worked at GE for 15 years in various leadership roles in global sourcing for GE's aviation and health care businesses, according to a company statement.

Kevin Smith

CNA Specialty President-COO to Step Down

CNA Financial Corp. has entered into a general release and separation agreement with Kevin Smith, current president and chief operating officer, CNA Specialty, effective June 1, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Form 8-K filing.

Smith has served as president and COO of CNA Specialty since 2017. In this role, he was responsible for CNA's specialty business, which offers tailored products and services through its affinity business, financial lines, health care, surety and warranty business units, according to his company bio.

Smith has more than 25 years of insurance experience. Prior to joining CNA, Smith was executive vice president and North American field strategic development officer for Chubb.
