Many in the life insurance industry want to inspire and reward healthy lifestyles. As a result, Foresters Financial has announced the launch of Foresters Go, a wellness platform that integrates wearable app-enabled technology and behavioral science to inspire and reward healthy lifestyles.
Foresters, a Toronto-based fraternal life insurer, is working with dacadoo, which develops technology solutions for digital health engagement and health risk quantification, on the platform. Best's Review discussed the new app with Nicole Gourley, global chief membership officer at Foresters Financial, and Blake Hill, vice president North America sales at dacadoo. Following is an edited transcript of an interview with both Gourley and Hill.
How does the app work?
Gourley: Essentially, it has an interactive digital coach, which helps to nudge members along on different ways in which they can improve their overall well-being. It has a very intuitive face, which includes information and measurements, including a health score—like your credit score but for health.
It's based on seven key elements of well-being, whether it's physical, mental—whether you're sleeping well, if you smoke or not—[these] are some good examples of how it's currently measured. Essentially, members, as they interact with the app, participate in challenges, they do things that help to improve their overall well-being, they earn points.
Those points can be redeemed for great rewards of thousands of different items of different types of merchandise. It also rewards you for doing good in your community, which we feel is a big proponent of why we exist—giving back to others. In short, it rewards those who help others.
How does it help integrate the wellness platform with app-enabled technology and behavioral science?
Gourley: Whether you have a Fitbit or Apple Watch, you can integrate with the platform. It has an innovative coach, which looks at personalizing that journey and creates more of a focus on behavioral science.
Is there anything you want to add as far as relationships and how it works well, and how it's going to be beneficial for consumers?
Hill: Our role, as the technology provider, is to power the brand and that experience that Nicole's talked about with her members. We brought a program, a product, to Foresters that was holistic health that was designed to engage members across the whole spectrum of health.
Working with the Foresters team and Nicole's team, we were able to actually complement that and grow that with that community aspect.
