Best's Rankings: Progressive's US Total Auto DPW 11.8% Rise Outpaces Industry, Competitors

OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Progressive Insurance Group's direct premiums written for U.S. total automobile insurance rose 11.8% to $79.18 billion in 2025, far outpacing its nearest competitors and the industry at large, according to a new Best's Rankings report.



Industry DPW for total auto writers increased 4.1% to $449.4 billion.

Progressive retained its top spot, followed by State Farm Group, where premiums were up 2.6% to $71.59 billion; No. 3 Berkshire Hathaway Insurance, up 5.4% to $46.8 billion; No. 4 Allstate Insurance Group, up 2.7% to $38.23 billion; and No. 5 USAA Group, up 3.7% to $22.96 billion.

Premiums declined less than 1% at Farmers Insurance Group, moving it past Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos. to No. 6 as Liberty Mutual's DPW fell 9.1%.

The report includes direct premium written, change in premiums, market share, adjusted loss ratio and percentage of the line in the company’s overall business.
