Best's Rankings: US Private Passenger Auto DPW Up 12.9%
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - U.S. private passenger automobile direct premiums written increased 12.9% last year to $359.51 billion, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
No. 1 writer State Farm Group and No. 2 Progressive Insurance Group each increased premiums in the double digits and both gained market share. State Farm's market share rose to 18.9% from 18.2% in the prior year and Progressive's grew to 16.7% from 15.2%.
Berkshire Hathaway Insurance, at No. 3, increased premiums 7.2% to $41.76 billion but its market share slipped to 11.6% from 12.2% a year earlier.
Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos. DPW dropped 11.8% to $11.74 billion, and it slipped to the No. 7 largest writer of the line, behind Farmers Insurance Group, where premiums rose 2% to $13.49 billion.
The ranking includes 2024 direct premiums written, the percentage change and share of company overall premiums as well as three years of market share and adjusted loss ratios.
