Best's Rankings: US Product Liability Claims Made DPW Up 3.2% in 2024
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - The U.S. product liability (claims made) industry’s direct premiums written increased 3.2% to $888.1 million in 2024, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
The top four writers from last year maintained their perch atop the rankings, led by Chubb INA Group at No. 1. Chubb saw a 5.5% increase in DPW to $220.3 million. CNA Insurance Cos. was second at $77.6 million DPW, a 1.5% increase over 2023.
Kinsale Insurance Co. and Markel Insurance Group held onto the third and fourth spots, respectively, despite decreases in DPW. Kinsale saw a 3.1% decrease to $55.5 million DPW, while a 13.2% decrease saw CNA drop its DPW to $47.1 million.
The largest decrease in the top 10 belonged to Allianz US PC Insurance Cos., which fell two spots from fifth to seventh with $37.6 million, an 18.4% decrease. ProAssurance Group moved up one spot to fifth, with $43.1 million DPW, a 1.7% increase. Tokio Marine Group climbed to sixth from seventh with $42.9 million, a 3.3% increase.
The largest increase in the top 10 was Nationwide P/C Group's 70.1% increase to $31.8 million, helping it rise to No. 10 from No. 14.
The two-page report includes 2024 DPW, percentage change in premiums, market share and adjusted loss ratios for 2024 and 2023, and percentage of company premiums.
