Best's Rankings: 2025 US Property/Casualty NPW Rise 5%; Top-25 Growth Strongest at Progressive
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - U.S. property/casualty net premiums written increased 5% last year, a rate exceeded by seven of the 10 largest writers, according to a new Best's Ranking.
Best's Ranking: Top US Property/Casualty WritersNet premiums written totaled $975.78 billion industrywide. The industry's combined ratio after dividends improved to 92.9 from 96.6 a year earlier.
Two of the 25 largest writers increased NPW by double digits: 11.7% at No. 2 Progressive Insurance Group, to $83.15 billion; and 10.4% at No. 9 Farmers Insurance Group, to $21.55 billion.
Farmers grew while improving its net combined ratio after dividend to 82.5, the lowest among the 25 largest carriers.
Net premiums written declined 3.3% at No. 7 Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos., to $37.23 billion as the company improved its combined ratio after dividends by 10 points to 90.2.
State Farm Group, the largest property/casualty writer in the country, increased NPW 5.6% to $113.79 billion and improved its net combined ratio after dividends to 98.2 from 105 a year earlier.
The ranking also includes admitted assets, policyholder surplus, percentages of change, combined ratios after dividends and including net premiums earned and other key ratios.
