Best's Rankings: Berkshire Hathaway Near Top of Holding Companies by Revenue, Assets
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Berkshire Hathaway Inc. topped the list of U.S. holding companies ranked by total assets with its $1.22 trillion in 2025, up 5.9%. The company took second place in total revenue, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Berkshire Hathaway had total revenue of $410.52 billion in 2025, which was down 3.2% from the prior year, according to the AM Best research. Leading the pack in the metric was UnitedHealth Group Inc., which registered $447.57 billion in revenue in a gain of 11.8% from the prior year.
Life and annuity insurers made up a large portion of the asset rankings, while health insurers dominated the total revenue figures.
Rounding out the top five in total assets were: No. 2 Prudential Financial Inc. with assets of $773.74 billion up 5.2%; No. 3 MetLife Inc. with $745.17 billion in 2025 up by 10%; No. 4 Apollo Global Management Inc. with $460.95 billion in assets for 2025 up by 22%; and No. 5 Athene Holding Ltd. with $442.21 billion up by 21.7%.
Following UnitedHealth and Berkshire Hathaway in revenue was third place Cigna Group with $274.89 billion for 2025, up 12.5% from the prior year, according to the report. Elevance Health Inc. was fourth with revenue of $199.13 billion for 2025, up by a similar 12.5%. Rounding out the top five was No. 5 Centene Corp. with $196.35 billion in revenue for 2025, up 19.1%.
