Best's Rankings: Total 2025 Revenue Declines at Top 2 US/Canada Public Insurers By Assets
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - The two public insurers in the United States and Canada with the largest assets saw total revenues fall in 2025, according to two new Best's Rankings reports.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. was No. 1 in total assets, which rose 5.9% to $1.22 trillion. Prudential Financial Inc. was No. 2, with a 5.2% rise in total assets to $773.74 billion.
Based on total revenue, Berkshire Hathaway was the second-largest public insurer in the two countries, and its revenue was down 3.2% to $410.52 billion. Prudential Financial was No. 10 in the Best's Rankings based on total revenue, which fell 13.6% to $61.26 billion.
UnitedHealth Group Inc.'s total revenue made it the largest public insurer in the two countries in 2025. It increased 11.8% to $447.57 billion.
Health insurers dominated the top 10 spots based on total revenue, including No. 3 Cigna Group, No. 4 Elevance Health Inc., No. 5 Centene Corp. and No. 6 Humana Inc.
The second-largest property/casualty carrier by total revenue was Progressive Corp., at seventh place.
Based on 2025 total assets, multiline Berkshire Hathaway was an outlier in a top 10 group largely offering life and retirement products and services, from Prudential through No. 10 Jackson Financial Inc.
The separate rankings include either total revenue or total assets for the 75 largest writers in the United States and Canada in 2024 and 2025 and the percentage change.
