2026 Best’s Rankings: Despite Premium Swings, Top 5 Group Life Insurers By Premiums Contracts Stable
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - The order of the top five group life insurers in 2025, based on premiums contracts, remained unchanged from the year prior despite several double-digital swings in premium gains and losses, according to a new Best’s Ranking report.
MetLife Insurance Cos. maintained its No. 1 spot, despite group life insurance premiums declining 2.9% to $10.03 billion. No. 2 New York Life Group saw premiums increased 42.9% to $6.01 billion, No. 3 Nationwide Life Group had a 22.2% decline, Prudential of America Group had a 17.6% decline and Securian Financial Insurance Group had a 12.4% increase.
Breaking into the top 10 insurers on the ranking was Meiji Yasuda US Life Group, which moved from No. 12 to No. 6 with premiums contracts increasing 159.3% to $1.63 billion. Globe Life Group moved from No. 15 in 2024 to No. 9 as it saw premiums contracts increase 84.7% to $809.7 million.
Overall, the group life sector saw premiums contracts increase 7.3% to $38.61 billion in 2025.
