2026 Best's Rankings: US Total Life in Force Rises 3.4% in 2025
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - A new Best's Rankings report for United States total life insurance in force revealed the 2025 figure for the U.S. life/health industry was $64.55 trillion, up 3.4% from the previous year.
For the top 25 insurers, the figure rose 3.0% to $49.62 trillion. The figure for the top 100 insurers rose 3.3% to $63.75 trillion.
RGA Group was the only underwriter among the top 20 to see a double-digit gain as insurance in force rose 12.1% to $2.57 trillion. RGA rose to No. 5 from No. 7 in the ranking.
Great-West Life Group held the top spot as its insurance in force rose 3.7% to $5.55 trillion.
MetLife Life Insurance Cos. remained at No. 2 as its insurance in force fell 0.2% to $5.32 trillion. Prudential of America Group kept its No. 3 position with insurance in force rising 6.5% to $4.87 trillion.
Rounding out the top five was New York Life Group, which remained at No. 4 as its insurance in force rose 7.6% to $3.49 trillion.
Securian Financial Insurance Group saw the steepest drop in its insurance in force among the top 25, as it fell 4.7% to $2.27 trillion. Securian fell to No. 7 from No. 6 in the ranking.
