2026 Best's Rankings: New Jersey, California Lead Private Passenger Premium Gains
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - New Jersey and California led U.S. states in the largest percentage increase in 2025 direct premiums written for U.S private passenger automobile insurance, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
The new Best's Ranking measured U.S. property/casualty writers ranked by 2025 private passenger auto direct premiums written by state.
New Jersey rose to No. 7 from No. 9 as its 2025 private passenger direct premiums written rose 12.7% to $12.22 billion; and California, which retained its No. 1 position as DPW rose 11.0% to $48.39 billion.
Retaining its No. 2 position, Texas recorded a 0.7% rise in DPW to $35.63 billion. For third-ranked Florida, which also retained its position, DPW fell 5.1% to $31.95 billion.
New York and Georgia both retained their positions at No, 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Total private passenger auto DPW for 2025 rose 3.4% to $371.58 billion from the previous year.
States were ranked by DPW, percentage change from 2024, market share and leading writers, among other items.
