2026 Best's Rankings: Liberty Mutual US Auto Liability DPW Decline, Dropping it to No. 7
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Farmers Insurance Group overtook Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. to become the No. 6 writer of U.S. automobile liability insurance direct premiums last year, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Farmers increased DPW 3.3% to $8.41 billion while Liberty Mutual premiums declined 5.8% to $8.33 billion.
Progressive Insurance Group remained the top writer as its DPW rose 13.1% to $49.9 billion, increasing its market share and widening its lead over No. 2 State Farm.
No. 10 Auto Club Enterprises Insurance Group had the strongest growth among the 10 largest writers of auto liability with a 15.3% increase in premiums to $4.1 billion.
Industry premiums for the line rose 6% last year to $272.01 billion.
The ranking includes 2025 direct premiums written, the percentage change and share of company overall premiums as well as three years of market share and adjusted loss ratios.
