2026 Best's Rankings: US Group Life Issued Increases More Than 12% in 2025
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - United States group life business issued saw increases of more than 12% in 2025, with a pair of insurers breaking into the top five on the backs of increases greater than 200%, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Total U.S. group life business issued increased 12.8% to $1.67 trillion. The industry's top 50 and top 100 insurers each also saw 12.8% increases, while the top 25 insurers saw a 12.9% increase.
No. 1 MetLife Insurance Cos. maintained its spot at the top despite a 5.9% decrease to $331.88 billion. New York Life Group saw a 208.3% increase to $198.66 billion and jumped to No. 2 from No. 8. Aflac U.S. Group's 231.5% increase to $128.92 billion helped catapult it to No. 5 from No. 14.
Unum Insurance Group held onto the No. 3 spot after a 49.8% increase to $158.47 billion. Lincoln Financial Group dropped to No. 4 from No. 2 after a 3.4% increase to $154 billion.
The sharpest decline belonged to Boston Mutual Group, which dropped to No. 66 from No. 44 after a 77.4% drop to $102.84 billion.
