2026 Best's Rankings: US Other Commercial Auto Liability Direct Premiums Written Up 9.5%
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - U.S. other commercial automobile liability insurance carriers saw direct premiums written increased 9.5% to reach $59.77 billion in 2025, and Progressive Insurance Group retained its spot atop the list, according to a new Best’s Rankings report.
The total industry’s adjusted loss ratio of 72.5 in 2025 was down from 77.7 in the prior year, according to the ranking.
No. 2 Travelers Group also held onto its position with a DPW of $3.32 billion for an increase of 9.9% and a market share of 5.6%, according to the ranking.
Third-place Berkshire Hathaway Insurance posted the largest annual percentage increase in the top 25 carriers, with its $3.15 billion in DPW up by 50.2%. The company held a market share of 5.3%. Berkshire moved up two places from fifth a year earlier.
In fourth was Old Republic Insurance Group, which had a DPW increase of 15.9% to $2.54 billion, and a market share of 4.2%. Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos. moved down two places to fifth, with $2.33 billion in DPW showing an increase of 5.9%. The carrier held a market share of 3.9%.
