2026 Best's Rankings: MS&AD's Strong Growth Bucks Industry Private Flood DPW Decline
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - MS&AD US Insurance Group vaulted to the top of U.S. private flood property/casualty writers, up from No. 4 a year earlier, by growing direct premiums 31.8% to $175 million, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Private flood premiums dropped by double digits at two of the carriers it moved past: Berkshire Hathaway Insurance and Assurant P&C Group.
Industry premiums for the line declined 1.9% to $1.26 billion.
MS&AD's DPW increased its market share from 10.3% in 2024 to 13.8% last year.
XL America Cos. dropped from the top spot to No. 2 after premiums rose a more modest 4.5% to $167 million.
Berkshire Hathaway bumped down one position to No. 3 on $128.9 million of premiums, down 14.3%.
Assurant slipped to the fourth-largest writer of the line on a 15.1% decline in DPW to $120.7 million.
The ranking lists 2025 private flood direct premiums written and the percentage of change from the prior year, three years of market share and adjusted loss ratios and the percentage share of company premiums for the line.
