2026 Best's Rankings: Progressive Claims Top Other Private Passenger Auto Writers Spot
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Progressive Insurance Group boosted direct premiums written 18.5% to $38.16 billion last year to become the No. 1 writer of other private passenger auto, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
It increased its market share from 15.8% in 2023 to 19.8% last year.
State Farm Group slipped to No. 2 after its DPW grew 6.1% to $35.01 billion last year and its market share rose 0.1% from the year prior to 18.2%.
Berkshire Hathaway Insurance retained its No. 3 position with $21.62 billion in DPW, 2.4% higher than in 2024.
Industry other private passenger auto direct premiums written increased 5.7% to $192.88 billion.
NJM Insurance Group's DPW growth was strongest among the top 20 other private passenger auto writers, up 23% to $943.1 million. It moved from No. 26 to No. 19.
The ranking lists 2025 other private passenger direct premiums written and the percentage of change from the prior year, three years of market share data and adjusted loss ratios and the percentage share of company premiums for the line.
