2026 Best's Rankings: Berkshire DPW Falls 57.0% Among US P/C Ocean Marine Writers
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Berkshire Hathaway Insurance saw a 57.0% decline in ocean marine direct premiums written, according to a new Best's Rankings of U.S. property/casualty writers ranked by 2025 ocean marine DPW.
The company's ranking slipped to No. 15 from No. 6 as its DPW fell to $120.3 million. United Fire & Casualty Group's DPW declined 71.4% to $11.6 million, dropping it from 35th to 50th.
Total industry DPW and DPW for the top 75 writers in 2025 fell 0.6% to $5.71 billion. For the top 25 writers, DPW fell 1.4% to $4.84 billion.
American International Group retained its top spot in the ranking as its DPW rose 4.6% to $817.7 million.
Among the gainers in the top 25, Swiss Reinsurance Group saw a 38.2% increase in DWP, Beazley USA Insurance Group's DWP rose 26.0% and Axis US Operations rose 22.3%.
The two-page ranking measures 2025 DPW; percentage change in premiums; market share and adjusted loss ratios for 2025, 2024 and 2023; and ocean marine as a percentage of total company premiums.
