2026 Best's Rankings: Lincoln Financial Surges More Than 450 Places in Disability Income Ranking
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Lincoln Financial Group surged into No. 7 on a list of U.S. life/health insurers ranked by disability income 2025 premiums for accident & health contracts, rising from 469 the prior year.
The total U.S. life health industry reported an increase of 5.4% to $30.99 billion, according to the report.
Lincoln Financial reported disability income premiums in the category rose to $2.01 billion in 2025, an increase of 201.3%, according to the ranking. The percentage increase was the highest among the top 35 carriers.
Unum Insurance Group retained the top spot even as its $3.48 billion in premiums for accident and health contracts dropped 16.3%, according to the ranking. In second was MetLife Insurance Cos., which moved up one spot with premiums of $3.43 billion, up 5.8%.
MetLife knocked third-place Hartford Life & Accident Insurance Co. down one spot from the prior year as its $3.36 billion in premiums rose just 0.2%, according to the ranking.
Both remaining spots in the top five were unchanged with New York Life Group at fourth and Meiji Yasuda US Life Group in No. 5, according to the ranking. New York Life had 2025 premiums of $2.62 billion and Meiji Yasuda reported $2.27 billion, with increases of 1.1% and 0.5%, respectively.
The three-page report ranks the top 100 carriers for 2025 and 2024, as well as disability income 2025 premiums for accident and health contracts, along with the percentage change.
