2026 Best's Rankings: Double-Digit DPW Decline for AIG, Berkshire Hathaway in US Fire & Allied Lines
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - U.S. fire and allied lines direct premiums written declined by double digits at Berkshire Hathaway Insurance and American International Group, according to a new Best's Rankings report.
Berkshire Hathaway's DPW decreased 11.4% to $3.83 billion in 2025, and its market share slipped 0.6% to 4.1%, although it retained its No. 5 position.
AIG dropped to No. 9 from No. 8 after premiums were down 11.3% to $2.57 billion.
Farmers Insurance Group gained the last spot in the top 10 group after premiums climbed 34.2% to $2.56 billion.
No. 1 Chubb INA Group boosted fire and allied lines DPW 7.7% to $6.08 billion.
Across the industry, fire and allied lines premium rose 1.2% to $93.28 billion.
The report includes 2025 direct premiums written and percentage change, three years of market share and adjusted loss ratios and the percentage share of company premiums for the line.
