2026 Best’s Rankings: Selective Cracks Top 5 on Product Liability (Total) List
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Selective Insurance Group was the fifth-largest writer of products liability (total) based on direct premiums written in 2025, moving up two spots from the year prior, according to a new Best’s Rankings report.
Selective saw its DPW increase 5% to $262.95 million, while its market share held steady at 4.5% from the year prior. The line accounted for 4.7% of the company’s premiums.
Allianz US PC Insurance Cos. was displaced by Selective, falling one spot to No. 6 as its DPW declined 0.2% to $258.0 million. Kinsale Insurance Co. also dropped one spot to No. 7, and its DPW increased 0.5% to $252.3 million.
Chubb INA Group retained the top spot on the ranking, with DPW increasing 4.8% to $617.96 million. American International Group maintained its No. 2 position, with DPW up 2.8% to $333.2 million, while W.R. Berkley Insurance Group held on at No. 3, with DPW increasing 8.8% to $294.0 million.
Overall, the sector saw DPW increase 4.6% to $5.82 billion, according to the ranking. The top 25 carriers, which held an 81.3% market share, saw DPW increase 4.7% to $4.73 billion.
The report includes direct premium written, change in premiums, market share, adjusted loss ratio and percentage of the line in the company’s overall business.
