Janice Laws Robinson Again Seeking Georgia Insurance Commissioner Nomination
ATLANTA //BestWire// - Janice Laws Robinson, a Democrat who lost in the 2018 general election for Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, is making another bid for the office.
Janice Laws Robinson Robinson, who ran as Janice Laws four years ago, announced her candidacy on her webpage, janiceforgeorgia.com.
She said it is an honor to seek the public office.
“I was humbled and grateful to receive nearly 4 million votes of confidence cast for me during the 2018 elections, and I do not take your belief in me lightly,” she said on her webpage. “Despite all of our hard work, Georgians still do not have an insurance commissioner elected by the people that has stood the test of public trust.”
Beck, who won the 2018 race with 50.4% of the vote, is now in prison, serving a sentence for crimes he committed before being elected. Gov. Brian Kemp named John King to replace him, and King is running in the Republican primary (BestWire, April 5, 2021).
Robinson said she has 20 years of industry experience, and says she can make a difference for Georgia families. According to her LinkedIn page, she is managing partner & principal broker at J. Laws & Associates, an independent insurance and financial services agency.
Georgia is a hub for technological advances and innovations, she said, saying she could use the insurance commissioner’s position to “make an unprecedented difference in the quality of life for all us Georgians.”
She also said she would develop an “engagement framework” to be used during the campaign and also in office not only to encourage the reporting of fraud and abuse, but also allow Georgians to take a role in “policy and administrative performance evaluation process of our state insurance practices.”
State Rep. Matthew Wilson has already announced his candidacy to run for the Democratic nomination for the position (BestWire, April 29, 2021).
In the 2018 primary, Robinson, who operates an independent insurance agency, handily defeated Cindy Zeldin, former executive director of the consumer advocacy group Georgians for a Healthy Future. Laws drew 301,076 votes, 63% of the total (BestWire, May 23, 2018).
An attempt to obtain further comment from Robinson was not immediately successful.
