Best’s Rankings: Top L/H Insurer Prudential of America 2022 Pretax Investment Return Was -1.2%
OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - Prudential of America Group’s pretax investment return was negative 1.2% on total admitted assets of $515.23 billion in 2022, according to a new Best’s Rankings.
The U.S. life/health industry’s total return decreased to 2.7% from 5.1% a year earlier.
Prudential remained the No. 1 life/health insurer last year, based on total admitted assets. No. 2 MetLife Life Insurance Cos. had a 3.7% pretax investment total return on $426.88 billion of assets, the greatest return of the top-10 carriers.
The remaining largest insurers all posted positive investment returns, ranging from 0.1% at No. 9 Jackson National Group to 3.6% at No. 3 New York Life Group.
The ranking includes U.S. life/health industry investment return percentages for the 10 years ending in 2022 for pretax investment total return with gross and net yields and a breakdown by bonds, common stock, preferred stock, mortgages, contracts loans and premium notes and cash and short-term investments.
The same information is broken out in 2022 only for each of the 100 largest insurers, ranked by total admitted assets.
