Best's Rankings: US Property/Casualty Three-Month 2026 NPW Up 2.8%; Farmers Grows 15.9%

OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// - U.S. property/casualty net premiums written increased 2.8% to $252.49 billion while the combined ratio after dividends improved 6.9 points to 92 in the first quarter of 2026, according to a new Best's Rankings report.



Farmers Insurance Group posted the strongest growth among the top writers as NPW rose 15.9% to $5.68 billion, making it the ninth-largest U.S. property/casualty insurer in the quarter as its post-dividend net combined ratio improved to 74.8 from 99.8.

Net premiums written increased for each of the 10 largest writers except Allstate Insurance Group, where they declined 0.2% to $13.84 billion.

No. 1 State Farm Group's NPW rose 2% to $27.86 billion. Its post-dividend combined ratio improved to 111.4 from 118.6 from in the prior-year period and was the sole top-10 writer and one of two top-20 writers whose ratio exceeded 100.

No. 2 Progressive Insurance Group's NPW increased 6.5% to $23.64 billion. Its post-dividend combined ratio worsened fractionally to 84.8 from 84.4 a year earlier.

The Best's Rankings is based on submissions from affiliated and unaffiliated U.S. companies and licensed foreign insurers that submitted three-month statutory statements to AM Best by June 10.

The report on U.S. property/casualty writers’ three-month 2026 financial results includes NPW, admitted assets, policyholder surplus, percent changes and associated ratios.
